Design of a reflection-suppressed all-optical diode based on asymmetric L-shaped nonlinear photonic crystal cavity

    Get PDF
A simple design method for suppressing the reflection of the all-optical diode based on the L-shaped photonic crystal (PC) cavity is proposed. Analyzing the linear resonant characteristics of the PC cavity and using the nonlinear coupled-mode theory, the strategy for obtaining reflection-suppressed structure is illustrated. Based on the design rule, a “reflection-suppressed all-optical diode” is presented, and numerical solutions indicate that the designed structure has a small reflection as well as an extremely large nonreciprocal transmission ratio

Leader Identification Using Multimodal Information in Multi-party Conversations

It is one of the important tasks to predict a participant\u27s role in a multi-party conversation. Many previous studies utilized only verbal or non-verbal features to construct models for the role recognition task. In this paper, we propose a model that combines verbal and non-verbal features for leader identification. We add non-verbal features and construct our prediction model with utterance, pose, facial, and prosodic features. In our experiments, we compare our model with a baseline model that is based on only utterance features. The results show the effectiveness of our multimodal approach. In addition, we improve the performance of the baseline model to add some new utterance features.International Conference on Asian Language Processing (IALP 2020), 4-6 December, 2020, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia(新型コロナ感染拡大に伴い、オンライン開催に変更

Ubiquitin chains in the Dsk2 UBL domain mediate Dsk2 stability and protein degradation in yeast

Ubiquitin-like (UBL)-ubiquitin-associated (UBA) proteins, including Dsk2 and Rad23, act as delivery factors that target polyubiquitinated substrates to the proteasome. We report here that the Dsk2 UBL domain is ubiquitinated in yeast cells and that Dsk2 ubiquitination of the UBL domain is involved in Dsk2 stability, depending on the Dsk2 UBA domain. Also, Dsk2 lacking ubiquitin chains impaired ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation and decreased the interaction of Dsk2 with polyubiquitinated proteins in cells. Moreover, Dsk2 ubiquitination affected ability to restore the temperature-sensitive growth defect of dsk2 Delta. These results indicate that ubiquitination in the UBL domain of Dsk2 has in vivo functions in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway in yeast

A 62-year-old man was admitted to another hospital because of hip joint pain and gait disturbance, and he was referred to our hospital for a left psoas abscess. Drainage for the abscess resulted in well control of systemic inflammation. A diagnosis of descending colon cancer was made based on close examination. On the 24th day after the admission, resection of the descending colon was performed. The tumor had invaded the retroperitoneum, but no direct invasion into the iliopsoas muscle was confirmed. The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful. The patient was discharged from the hospital 18 days postoperatively. Rare cases of a carcinoma of the descending colon complicated with a psoas abscess reported in Japan, including our case, are reviewed in this paper

We report five cases, two in detail, of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix vermiformis.Case 1 : A 46-year-old woman undergoing surgical resection for suspected acute appendicitiswas found to have an enlarged appendix and intraabdominal pooling of mucin. Appendectomywith partial cecectomy was done, but the postoperative histological diagnosis was a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix, necessitating ileocecal resection. Follow-up CT 7 months afterinitial operation showed a recurrent intraperitoneal tumor, which was then resected. She underwentintraperitoneal CDDP chemotherapy via a reservoir, and no symptom of recurrence has beenfound since. Case 2 : A 59-year-old woman undergoing ileocecal resection for appendiceal mucocelewas found 6 months later to have a metastatic liver tumor. Systemic chemotherapy markedlyreduced it, and intraabdominal CDDP chemotherapy instituted postoperatively has shown nosymptom of intraabdominal recurrence. From these results and three other cases, we considerthat adequate surgical resection and the removal of intraabdominal pooling of mucin and irrigationtogether can provide a good prognosis. Intraperitoneal CDDP chemotherapy is also useful ininhibiting the recurrence of pseudomyxoma peritonei
